There were environmental reasons that the Long Bridge site could not be a school. I don’t know if the site of the new Aquatics Center in South Arlington would have made a good school site, but they sure could have built one for the cost of it. I agree I can’t believe the County built out the Lubber Run Community Center over a school. Time to revert the community centers to schools. It’s easier to centralize community center functions - send them all to Barcroft. The new Lubber Run site would have made a great, central, option school site or a great school site for growing Ballston. More information about the commonwealth’s school accreditation standards is available on the Virginia Department of Education website. Schools under state sanction for not implementing corrective actions plans are rated as "Accreditation Denied."

Upon request by a local school board, schools serving students with special needs may be evaluated based on alternate accreditation plans approved by the state Board of Education. High-performing schools earn three-year waivers from annual accreditation, although performance on school quality indicators is reported annually.

Schools performing at Level One or Level Two on all school quality indicators are rated as "Accredited." In addition: Ratings are based on performance during the most recent year or on a three-year average.
